Note to self — pay attention! Seem to be encountering rather a lot of stream-like, pond-like water analogies lately such as ‘in the flow’ — ‘torrential’ — and now ‘awash’ and then some!

Laughing as I type this, in the real-life-as-a-metaphor-for-spiritual-life state, I am awash with water right outside our doorstep (more on that shortly). But in examining the spiritual-metaphysical aspects, I am awash with change.

I have just completed a book, I have another book percolating which is 3/4 done, I survived the scary hospitalization 2 weeks ago and recognized the transformative and clarifying power of the pain, and our life has just kicked up a notch activity wise. I also feel awash with possibilities and potential right now and as a result, I am more fully engaged in creating than I have been for rather a long time. Ideas and images are just springing into my brain at all hours of the day and night.

And about the real world state? Awash — the ground outside our newly constructed cottage is simply awash with water! And since we have a type of soil that is classified as ‘sticky clay’ (and that’s an official term from both the Shire Council and the men who did our foundations), the ground just swells and repels all efforts to drain away. And if you try to have driveway gravel delivered and installed this time of year, it just SUCKS into the sticky-clay and disappears. Charming!

We moved in on June 1st, right at the beginning of winter here in Australia — and for almost four months now it has rained, rained, rained, and (one more time for emphasis!) RAINED!!!

After last year’s devastating bushfire season and the accompanying loss of lives and properties all over Victoria, it’s hard not to sound curmudgeon-like when you have a bit of a whinge about non-stop water. And I know that the farmers in our area are practically dancing in the paddocks from relief.

But landscaping? Forget about it! There is no way to plant trees and shrubs in a downpour, so the cottage exterior is still rather sad and naked. And the tile surface has yet to be installed on the back veranda since you can’t really do that in a horizontal rain with gale force winds.

So, tucked up snug and warm in the wee little eco-cottage, I allow the state of well-being to (I know, I know — but I can’t help myself!) WASH over me again as I end this and head over to another screen to do some editing.

Deborah — living in the flow (giggle!)
