Thanks for those lovely words!

We feel very peaceful right now in spite of the work ahead to get prepped to move. We have surrounded this house with all of the love that we have had for one another AND for the house and land. I sincerely hope that anyone who walks onto the property can feel that.

Dear Deborah,

You're doing the right thing, you already know. It is a lovely space--what you've done with it. A lovely space that has been enriched by your care and your spirits dwelling there. Wonderful new stories to be lived in your new place...

Peace and all good things for you. Sincerely,

Diane

That's a serious issue anywhere -- not knowing the basics of how to feed or clothe ourselves or put a roof over our heads. And since so many of us around the world live in cities, there are less and less people with the types of life-skills that would be essential if the world does an all-fall-down. That's one reason that I think that my husband and I would manage and so would quite a lot of the people our age that we know -- we have those basic life skills you were referring to. And Mark could certainly build the two of us another house if he ever had to. I honestly think that one of the global solutions is going to end up being a resurgence in the intentional community movement. People who are like-minded may find a great deal of benefit in living, working, and sharing their living spaces. If multi-generational families are not practical for everyone, certainly a life in an intentional community could be an option!

I think the revolution is upon us, and I agree that it will be a multi-generational one. Also have to say that the linked article was great, and I have made some of the exact same rants on days when the situation on the planet overwhelms me. I think we are long past time when small tweaks can fix the system. The system, at least in America, is broken past repair, and the people of America are going to have to take a deep breath and live through some very uncomfortable times - times that make the recent recession look like vacation.

On the plus side of this, those of us who know how to bake, can our own food, live with less may find ourselves with a new career teaching these skills to people who never learned them. I'm continually amazed at the simple skills my students don't have.
